Abstract
We are going to dive in into the fascinating and exciting new world of alternative grading, and explain the advantages and disadvantages of this new method compared to well-established old-fashioned grading based on points and grading scales. We will present the results of implementing one version of such grading, Standards Based grading, across all sections of introductory algebra-based physics sequence. We will talk about the results of our “experiment, discuss the successful outcomes and lament over inevitable challenges.
