Title of Presentation: “What should you be afraid of: The environment and risk factors”
Abstract: Acceptability of risk has been shown to be proportional to the third power of the benefit derived from the activity in question. As an example: The public will accept risks from voluntary hazards that are (quantitatively) 1,000 times greater than those from involuntary hazards, e.g. skiing versus food preservatives. This talk will focus on documented risks and documented non-risks. At the end it is my hope that the attendees will have a clearer picture of what to fear and what to ignore.
